How to sponsor a semipro soccer club: a guide for brands

Most guides to sports sponsorship are written for the club. This one is written for the brand: what you are buying when you sponsor a semipro soccer club, what it costs, what to ask before you sign, and why this tier reaches Hispanic consumers that television and retail media do not.

What "semipro" means in US soccer

Below MLS and the professional USL divisions sits a large tier of clubs that play short seasons, pay little or nothing to players, and live on tickets, youth programs and sponsors. USL League Two ran 158 teams in 2026, in a season from May 3 to July 12 with 12 to 14 matches per team (source: 2026 USL League Two season). UPSL describes itself as the largest semipro league in North America with more than 900 teams in two seasons a year (source: UPSL team membership). NPSL adds a few dozen more. Many of these clubs also run youth academies with hundreds of families, which is where most of the audience actually is.

The commercial reality is the same across the tier: one or two people sell sponsorship as a side job, the buyers are local businesses within a few miles of the field, and the season is short. That is why inventory goes unsold, and why a brand that shows up with a clear ask can get more than the rate card suggests.

What you are buying

Sponsorship at this level is a short list of physical and digital placements. Prices are set by each club.

  • Jersey. Front, sleeve or back. The most visible asset and usually the only one sold per season. At youth academies, one sponsor often covers every age group.
  • Field signage. Banners around the pitch, seen by fans and in every photo and stream.
  • Matchday naming. One home match carries your name in the club's communication.
  • Activation. A table, a sampling station or a promotion at the match. This is where a consumer brand meets the fan.
  • Social. Posts on the club's channels, which for community clubs reach the families directly.
  • Exclusivity. Most clubs will sell one sponsor per category per season, so a grocery chain or an insurance brand can lock out its competitors for the cost of a single package.

What it costs

There is no standard price. Published guides for youth and amateur clubs put a single local package between a few hundred and a few thousand dollars per season; a jersey front at a club with a strong academy and a USL League Two side can run into five figures, and a club with a stadium and a waiting list sells multi-year deals. For a brand, the useful comparison is not other sponsorships but the alternatives: a season of field signage in front of a Hispanic family audience often costs less than one month of Spanish-language radio in the same market.

Why this tier reaches Hispanic consumers

Latino fans spend 15% more than non-Latino fans across sports categories, including media subscriptions and tickets to live events, according to McKinsey. Nielsen research found Latino fans 39% more likely to recommend a sponsoring company and 37% more likely to feel loyal to it.

The reason semipro soccer matters for that audience is structural. Research by McKinsey and the US Soccer Federation found that Latino children are three times more likely than White children to stop playing soccer because they feel unwelcome, which is why so much Hispanic soccer lives in community clubs and independent leagues rather than in pay-to-play academies. The clubs in USL League Two, UPSL and the local leagues are where Hispanic families already are on a Saturday. A brand does not have to buy the audience twice.

Five questions to ask a club before you sign

  1. Who comes to the matches, and how many? Ask for attendance per home match, families in the youth program and followers by channel. A club that cannot answer is not ready to sell.
  2. Which categories are already taken? If a bank, a car dealer or a beverage company holds exclusivity, your category may be closed regardless of budget.
  3. What exactly is included, and for how long? A season, a calendar year or multiple years. Jersey deals often run longer than signage.
  4. Who produces the material? Some clubs print your banner, most do not. Agree on it before the season starts.
  5. What proof do you get? A photo of each placement live, delivered once, is the minimum. Ask for it in writing.

How to buy without doing this club by club

A national or regional brand does not want ten conversations with ten volunteer sponsorship managers. A sales house for local Hispanic soccer represents the open inventory of many clubs under one contract, sells it with category exclusivity, collects payment and delivers proof, while each club keeps its price floor and approves every sponsor. That is what HRM does.

Questions

How much does it cost to sponsor a semipro soccer club?

Each club sets its own prices. Published guides for amateur clubs place a local package between a few hundred and a few thousand dollars per season, and jersey deals at clubs with strong academies run higher. Ask the club for attendance and families before comparing prices.

Can a national brand sponsor semipro soccer clubs?

Yes. The practical problem is scale: each club sells its own inventory. A sales house that represents many clubs lets a brand buy across markets under one contract with category exclusivity.

What is category exclusivity in club sponsorship?

One sponsor per business category per club per season. If you buy the grocery category, no other grocer can sponsor that club that season.

When is the semipro soccer season?

USL League Two plays from early May to mid July. UPSL runs a spring and a fall season. Youth academies run most of the year. Sponsorship budgets for the summer season are usually set between October and February.
