How should a soccer club price its sponsorship inventory?

There is no standard rate card. A price you can defend comes from three checks: what comparable local advertising costs, what your audience is worth per thousand impressions, and what it costs you to deliver the asset.
Why is there no standard price?
Because the price follows the audience. At the top of the sport, SponsorUnited reports that new MLS jersey patch deals average more than $5.5 million a year. At the bottom, a field banner can sell for a few hundred dollars. The Sponsorship Collective, which trains sponsorship sellers, is direct about it: there is no list of standard fees, only methods.
Method 1: compare with local advertising
Ask what it costs to reach the same people another way. Get the rate card of a local Spanish-language radio station, a community newspaper or a billboard near your field. Divide the cost of a small ad by the number of people it reaches and you have a local value per impression. A logo on a banner works like a small ad with no call to action, so price it in that neighborhood.
Method 2: price the audience
Add up the impressions an asset delivers in a season and apply a rate per thousand. Published ranges vary by source: one sponsorship platform puts sports sponsorship at $15 to $50 per thousand impressions, and an event industry guide puts event sponsorships at $8 to $60.
An illustration of the arithmetic, not a benchmark: a club with 400 fans at 12 home matches delivers 4,800 live impressions for a banner. Add 60,000 impressions from sponsored social posts and the season total is 64,800. At $25 per thousand, that is $1,620 for the season.
Method 3: know your floor
Count what the asset costs you: printing the banner, the jersey print, staff time on matchday, the photos you send as proof. No price should sit below that cost plus a margin.
What moves the price up or down?
Category exclusivity raises it, because the sponsor is also buying the absence of competitors. A full season is worth more than single matches; one athletic department guide suggests a 10% to 15% discount for a season commitment compared with buying match by match. The same guide recommends keeping a range, with entry options around $500 to $1,000 for small businesses and premium packages above $10,000. Those figures come from school athletics, so treat them as a reference, not a rule for your club.
How does pricing work on HRM?
Clubs set their own prices. Through Hispanic Retail Media (HRM), a brand sees each club's open inventory, the price and which categories are already taken before it commits, which removes the negotiation that slows most local deals.
Questions
How much should a semipro club charge for a jersey sponsorship?
There is no standard figure. Use local advertising costs, the value of your audience per thousand impressions and your own cost floor to set a season price you can explain line by line.
What CPM applies to sports sponsorship?
Published ranges vary: $15 to $50 per thousand impressions for sports sponsorship according to one platform, and $8 to $60 for event sponsorships according to an event industry guide.
Should a club discount a full season?
A season commitment is worth more to the club than single matches. One athletic department guide suggests a 10% to 15% discount for the full season.
Does category exclusivity change the price?
Yes. Exclusivity means one advertiser per business category per club per season, and sponsors pay more when competitors are kept out.
